Korean Minister Laments Lack of Unity Among Akwa Ibom Ethnicities
Nigerian born South Korean based minister of Akwa Ibom origin, Reverend Solomon Udo, gave a speech, Saturday, March 21, before an enthusiastic members of Akwa Ibom Community, New York, in Brooklyn's Metropolitan Corporate Academy, venue of the March 2009 General Meeting of the New York Chapter of the Akwa Ibom State Association of Nigeria, USA, Inc.
Those who attended the event included Hon. Nsikan Inokon, a former editor of the Nigerian Chronicle and one time Federal Electoral Commissioner, and Chief Bassey Mbaba, a leading petroleum products distributor in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
In his speech, Rev. Udo observed that, despite the dialectical differences of its people, Akwa Ibom State has a homogenous culture, which should make Akwa Ibom people both at home and in the Diaspora united, but lamented that the lack of unity remains a major concern among the elites and the ruling class.
The growth and progress of Akwa Ibom State will be driven by the extent to which Akwa Ibomites are united and continue to live in unity wherever they are, or find themselves, Rev. Udo said.
Urging the New York Chapter of the Akwa Ibom State Association to pursue programs that would encourage and unite the people of Akwa Ibom State everywhere, Rev. Udo stressed the need to provide Akwa Ibom people emotional and spiritual support regardless of their dialectical differences.
Born in Ikot Akpan Edok, Ndiya, Ikono, Rev. Udo, who praised the leadership of the New York Chapter of Akwa Ibom State for projecting the identity of Akwa Ibom State, graduated from the University of Nsukka and the University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria. Post graduate fellowship followed at the Graduate School of World Mission, Seoul South Korea. He later did post-graduate work at Drew University, USA.
